Our AKC Star Puppy Class is an ideal way to give your young dog a strong start. Lessons include sit, down, leash handling, recall, “drop it,” and “leave it.” We also guide you through puppy essentials like house training, crate time, grooming habits, and safe socialization. Graduates may qualify for an AKC Star Puppy Certificate following a short evaluation.
AKC Intermediate Puppy Class
6 months to 12 months
Bordatella and DHPP required
The Intermediate Class is designed for pups ready to move past the basics. Training covers long distance commands, leash manners with distractions, focus in busy environments, and calm settling. This stage sets the groundwork for everyday success and prepares your dog for Canine Good Citizen status.
AKC Trick Dog
Eligible for any adult dog with basic obedience
Bordatella + DHLPP + Rabies required
If your dog already knows the basics like sit, down, and come, our Tricks for Treats class offers a fresh way to keep training exciting. This program focuses on fun, engaging activities that strengthen your bond while providing valuable mental and physical exercise. Dogs learn entertaining skills such as army crawl, spin, shake, high five, play dead, take a bow, and target training. These tricks are great for showing off to friends and also help keep your dog’s mind active. Participants may test for the AKC Novice Trick Dog Title, with a Canine Good Citizen certificate counting toward part of the requirements.
We place a strong emphasis on enjoyment and confidence building. A happy dog is more eager to learn, and our approach keeps the sessions light and rewarding. Families are encouraged to participate so everyone shares in the fun and accomplishment. This interaction helps improve communication between owners and pets while providing a safe outlet for extra energy. Trick training is also an excellent solution for dogs who need more mental stimulation to prevent unwanted behaviors.
AKC Canine Good Citizen
Thursdays at 6:30 pm or Sundays at 1 pm
Any dog over 1 year with basic obedience
Bordatella + DHLPP + Rabies required
Our Canine Good Citizen class is designed for adult dogs who have a solid base and are ready to refine their skills. Training covers polite greetings with people, grooming and handling, leash walking through distractions, long distance sits and downs, recall under various conditions, calm behavior around other dogs, and appropriate reactions to everyday challenges. Owners also practice supervised separation so dogs can stay relaxed when apart.
At the end of the course, teams are evaluated and can earn their CGC title. This class is a perfect fit for dogs whose owners want them to set a high standard for behavior or prepare for therapy or service dog roles. The Barking Lot in Newman Lake is known for our dedication, consistency, and the personal connection we build with each client. Every dog here is part of a supportive community committed to lasting success.
I can’t say enough good things about Paige & her team at Spokane’s Newest Doggy Daycare, The Barking Lot! This indoor/outdoor facility is top tier & only twenty minutes from Downtown Spokane. I’m so excited about this great addition to our community.

Very cool doggy daycare set up! Great big indoor area to play and a turf area outside. Only a couple friends to play with so far as they’ve only been open a week but my puppies had a good time!
Krypto is going through anxiety/ kennel training & is doing amazingly well: I am very impressed & appreciative for the training that he is receiving. A+
I had the pleasure of accompanying a friend to drop off her rescue foster for boarding yesterday. I was so impressed with the facility. The set up is incredible. It is family owned and the family is amazing! They are not only very knowledgeable about dog’s needs and behaviors but they are truly passionate about animals. If you are needing to board your pet or looking for a doggie daycare The Barking Lot is THE place to go.
