We value the personal connection that comes from working in our own community. Our team celebrates every breakthrough, whether it is a first sit, a perfect recall, or calm behavior in a busy setting. Each instructor has years of hands on experience and a passion for guiding dogs toward becoming well mannered companions. For a local option that blends professionalism with personal care, The Barking Lot in Rathdrum is here for you.
AKC Star Puppy Class
8 weeks to 8 months
Bordatella and DHPP required
This class focuses on early skills such as sit, down, leash basics, recall, drop it, and leave it. We also assist new owners with house training, crate habits, grooming routines, and healthy social experiences. Puppies that meet the standards may earn an AKC Star Puppy certificate after a short evaluation.
AKC Intermediate Puppy Class
6 months to 12 months
Bordatella and DHPP required
This next step adds more control and focus, introducing longer commands, improved leash manners, distraction training, and settling calmly in various settings. It is a great step toward preparing for the Canine Good Citizen program.
AKC Trick Dog
For adult dogs with basic obedience
Bordatella, DHLPP, and Rabies required
Our Tricks for Treats program in Rathdrum offers an entertaining and productive way to keep your dog engaged. Skills include army crawl, spin, shake, high five, play dead, take a bow, and target training. These activities not only entertain but also improve focus, communication, and self control. Graduates can test for the AKC Novice Trick Dog Title, with the Canine Good Citizen certificate counting toward part of the requirements.
We see trick training as a powerful way to strengthen the bond between owners and dogs. It provides healthy mental stimulation, prevents boredom, and builds teamwork. Our instructors guide each step using patience and positive reinforcement so that dogs feel encouraged to learn. This environment helps owners feel more connected to their pets while giving dogs the satisfaction of mastering new skills.
Trick training often has benefits beyond the class. Dogs that learn to focus on commands and practice patience are usually better behaved at home. They may greet guests more calmly, handle grooming with less stress, and respond more quickly to instructions. Adding these positive outlets for energy can also reduce unwanted behaviors, leading to a more relaxed home environment.
AKC Canine Good Citizen
Thursdays at 6:30 pm or Sundays at 1 pm
For dogs over 1 year with basic obedience
Bordatella, DHLPP, and Rabies required
This course helps dogs refine the manners they already have. Skills include polite greetings, calm handling during grooming, leash walking through distractions, reliable distance commands, recall in varied settings, and friendly interactions with other dogs. Teams also work on supervised separation so dogs remain relaxed when apart from their handler.
Upon completion, participants can take the CGC evaluation to earn the title, showing that they meet recognized standards for good behavior in public. This accomplishment can also open the door to therapy work or other advanced training. The Barking Lot in Rathdrum is committed to guiding each dog and owner toward these goals with patience, knowledge, and consistent support.

Very cool doggy daycare set up! Great big indoor area to play and a turf area outside. Only a couple friends to play with so far as they’ve only been open a week but my puppies had a good time!
I had the pleasure of accompanying a friend to drop off her rescue foster for boarding yesterday. I was so impressed with the facility. The set up is incredible. It is family owned and the family is amazing! They are not only very knowledgeable about dog’s needs and behaviors but they are truly passionate about animals. If you are needing to board your pet or looking for a doggie daycare The Barking Lot is THE place to go.
